The Sims 4 City Life

Rumors of a new Sims Expansion Pack

The Sims 4 Expansion Packs in EA Origin

Strong evidence suggests the next expansion will be titled something similar to The Sims 4 City Life (it is translated so could be different). I do not normally publish anything about rumors, but this one has quite a bit of intriguing evidence to back it up.

Fansite simscommunity.info got an exclusive scoop via leaked information that lists some of the reported features of this Expansion EA are working on. That it was previously discovered that EA have submitted it for ratings board approval would make it seem that they've committed themselves to releasing it.

Rumored City Life Features
Pictures are currently grainy/small and appear as though they were taken with a phone. They've done the community a service by publishing it, as people were growing agitated waiting on information on the next expansion. According to the full post, which you can read here, the City Life expansion is expected to have:

  • Tourists
  • Apartments
  • Basketball
  • Cultural Events
  • Politics Career
  • Additional Rumors of a Patch with new features and UI improvements!

That is all that I will share, you can read a bit more on the site. Any remaining info is just my opinion.

Hopefully there are major things missing from this list given the time that has passed since the last Sims 4 Expansion. Get Together was released on December 8, 2015. At this point we are looking at 10 months since the last major addition with just Game and Stuff Packs in between. A lot of people have been disappointed, so simscommunity.info releasing this information has grabbed the community's attention. Hopefully this delay is due to them wanting to release a quality experience that improves upon the game in a compelling way. Some of those improvements that are unrelated to Expansion content will almost certainly be free given how they've treated the base game since release.

Sims 4 really needs more reasons for Sims to leave the house and do so a bit more freely, apartments are a good idea especially if they don't have loading screens when visiting a friend. It depends upon how it's executed. Going to cultural events in the city might be an interesting method to get Sims out more and interacting with other Sims. Combined with Clubs from Get Together they would improve upon one problem that I personally have with the game in that there's little reason to leave the house. Moodlets decay before you ever get there, and the town's always same-ish when you visit a lot.

We expect to get much more information when EA releases the next quarterly update that lays out what to expect for the months from October to early January. That will come somewhere around the end of this month or beginning of October. The last quarterly update was released on July 5, 2016. At that point, I'll publish screencaps from the trailer and share it here, assuming there is information on this rumored City Life included in that teaser.

Aside from missing toddlers, the world, and people's favorite decoration and sim-dressing tool (CASt), there are some flaws that some people cannot explain with Sims 4. Hopefully The Sims Studio and EA can improve upon this in a free patch. I'm as in the dark as anyone but would love for my favorite franchise be a bit more exciting to play. Simmers just do not play this game as long, nor were they ever as interested. It's evident in looking at search volume comparing Sims 3 to Sims 4 that it just has not caught on in a big way. TS4 only ever reached 40% of the popularity of The Sims 3 as you can see here. Now Sims 4 is only a bit more popular than the previous title.

This says nothing about the future of expansions, etc. It is a measure of the community's reaction to the sweeping changes that Sims 4 made to the series. However, as I've said before, things are far different from 2009. The Sims has always attracted a lot of casual players, and there's way more to do with indie titles and free games from Google Play.

Waiting...
I'm not enabling comments on this page, one day it will hopefully host a guide to a new expansion. We can talk about it when we get some solid information to chew on. For now, we only have a compelling rumor with more evidence to back it up thanks to simscommunity.info and their unidentified informant.
